Q: What is the difference between SPARTAN Magazine and SPARTAN Plus?

A: SPARTAN Magazine is a full-length newsprint magazine. Each issue contains more than 30 pages of content focusing on Michigan State football and basketball, along with unmatched recruiting coverage, and coverage of hockey and women’s basketball.

SPARTAN Magazine was established in 1991 and is generally recognized by Michigan State fans as being the authority on Spartan football and basketball. Our coverage is much more analytical and extensive than anything available in newspapers. The new Electronic Version gets the magazine content to you cheaper and faster, thereby enhancing your enjoyment of the publication.

SPARTAN Magazine is mailed 18 times a year, twice-a-month during football and basketball season, and monthly in May and July.

SPARTAN Plus is an electronic newsletter, sent twice a week during the sports season, or 80 times a year. SPARTAN Plus is for die-hard MSU fans who need updated information between issues of SPARTAN Magazine. It’s a timely supplement.

SPARTAN Plus was created in 1997, originally sent as an all-text email newsletter. SPARTAN Plus changed in format to its current form in 2006.

And SPARTAN Magazine covers July basketball recruiting events as if they were the NBA Finals. MSU fans are serious, and SPARTAN Magazine is serious in providing unmatched coverage and insight.

SPARTAN Magazine also provides interesting player features, historical articles, and important updates on individual player development with extensive quotes and insight from position coaches.

A: The staff writers of SPARTAN Magazine also write for SPARTAN PLUS. They include long-time editor and publisher Jim Comparoni, associate editor Jack Nowlin, and senior writer Paul Konydynk, plus a deep bench of correspondents including football recruiting expert Matt Dorsey.

SPARTAN Magazine writers are frequent guests on radio programs in Lansing, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint and Sirus Satellite Radio (RivalsRadio Channel 123).

Comparoni hosts “Spartan Magazine Radio” on a weekly basis during the college sports season, on WVFN-AM 730 in Lansing. Konyndyk is a weekly featured guest on WBBL-AM 1330 in Grand Rapids.

Comparoni has also appeared on FSN Detroit and various TV programs in Lansing.
